Gernot Winischhofer ist in Wien geboren, Er absolvierte sein Studium an der Wiener Musikhochschule,  am Mozarteum Salzburg sowie ein dreijähriges Studium am Tschaikowsky-Konservatorium in Moskau. Dies schloss er mit einem Diplom mit Auszeichnung ab. Er gewann nationale und internationale Preise. Seit 1987 ist er künstlerischer Leiter des Ost-West-Musikfestes und unterrichtet seit 1992 am Konservatorium der Stadt Wien.

Gernot Winischhofer was born in Vienna. He completed his studies at the Vienna Academy of Music, at the Mozarteum Salzburg and a three-year course at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He completed this with a diploma with distinction. He won national and international prizes. He has been artistic director of the East-West Music Festival since 1987 and has taught at the Vienna Conservatory since 1992.
